Canoeing Safari is the ultimate in relaxing excitement to enjoy the astonishingly beautiful scenery. It is appropriate for guests who like to experience a different but easy Activity option and it is also good for guests who do not have plenty of time in the National park.
Accompanied by qualified guides, guests meet at the canoe launching site. After receiving all safety information they set off on the water in the company of the canoeing guide. Canoeists glide over the smooth lake water (20m offshore) drifting past giraffe, buffalo and elephant. The trip ends with a refreshing drink stop.
For the country with both the biggest and the deepest lake in Africa, Tanzania visitors have relatively little opportunity for canoeing safaris. The only areas where game viewing can be done from a canoe are in Arusha National Park, Lake Duluti and in Lake Manyara National Park (if water level is sufficient). This is all canoeing on lakes, not rivers and the safaris are no longer than 3-hours.
We started our canoeing operations in Lake Manyara National Park after El Nino flooded most of the park and a canoe was a very sensible means of game viewing. This was the first adventure activity to be allowed in any Tanzanian National Park and we are still the only outfitter allowed to operate this activity for the parks.
Canoeing Safari Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park is a game reserve and one of the best safari parks with lot of opportunities for game viewing. It has a rich wildlife, diverse topography and different habitats. The park is perfect for day safaris, as it is close to Arusha and Moshi. It is a small park.
Lake Manyara National Park
The center of the national park is Lake Manyara, of which Ernest Hemingway once said: The loveliest I had seen in Africa! Lake Manyara National Park is unspoiled paradise with ground water forest, laced with underground springs and teeming with wildlife such as elephants, hippos, giraffes, buffaloes, the largest baboon.
Canoeing Safari Lake Victoria
Lake Victoria has three island shores that are worth a visit, Ukrewe, Rubondo, and Ukara island. The lake and the surrounding offers several tourist activities such as fishing trips, bird watching, hiking, and boat-rides. Swimming is also possible but should be done with caution due to Malaria and bilharzia.
Canoeing Lake Duluti (Arusha)
Glide across the smooth surface of this small Crater Lake and view birdlife seldom seen; Giant kingfisher, Fish eagle, Darters, and many more. Surrounded by forested crater walls this is a very special and quiet 1,5 hour canoeing experience. View hundreds of cattle egrets returning to an island in the lake to roost for the night.
